Summary:
This book tells the touching story of Meng Chiang-nu, whose husband was sent to help build the Great Wall of China. He has gone for many months, and Meng missed him very much. She decided to go on a long journey to find him. When she finally arrived, she was told the sad news that her husband has died. Meng was heartbroken and cried so much that even the emperor heard about her sorrow. The emperor came to see her and wanted to marry her. But Meng asked him to build a memorial for her husband first. After the work has finished, she refused to marry the emperor and chose to jump into the river, demonstrating her deep love and loyalty to her husband.
Reflection:
I really like this story because it shows how strong and brave Meng Chiang-nu is. She didn’t give up, even when things were very hard. Her love for her husband and her courage to stand up against the emperor was amazing. I learned that people in the past made big sacrifices to protect their country and their loved ones. This story also inspired me to understand more about Chinese history and the meaning behind the Great Wall. I think this book is very meaningful and touching. I would recommend it to my friends because it teaches us about love, bravery, and respect for those who came before us.
