Dear fellow media companies,

We are writing to you on behalf of the Dotdotnews team with regards to Facebook’s recent decision of terminating our fan pages several times. Dotdotnews is a news agency which is officially registered with Information Services Department of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. Our Facebook fan page has suspended time by time recently without clear explanation, and therefore, we have found our legal right even freedom of the press & speech are seriously damaged.

On 12th of September, Dotdotnews Facebook fan page had recovered after first suspension. Unfortunately, the page was terminated two days (13th Sep) later. However, the suppression from malicious people and Facebook did not stop, followed by continuous termination of our new fan pages including Dotdotnews 2.0, Dotdotnews 3.0, Dotdotnews 3.1.

The handling of Facebook on this issue is unacceptable. By claiming the content of our posts violate Community Standards or Terms of Use as an excuse, Facebook deleted our posts and terminated our fan pages over and over again, while completely ignoring the rampant fake fan pages that arrogate our brand and damage our reputation. In fact, none of our posts are hateful, threatening, obscene, or violating any of the Facebook Terms of Use. We even used government documents to apply for Facebook verified account, but in order to suppress us, Facebook disapproved our application for no reason.

Dotdotnews denounces the suppression of press freedom and the voice of righteousness is ruined by Facebook with strong indignation! For now, we strongly demand Facebook Inc. to provide all details and reasons about the suspension of Dotdotnews fan pages, also withdraw this double standard handling. We hope that you, as a fellow media company, would have a sense of justice to look into this issue, report on the unfair treatment from Facebook and uphold freedom of the press.

Dotdotnews reserves all rights to proceed legal action.

Sincerely,

Dotdotnews Editorial Department
